JD/MBA Capstone One, Entrepreneurship and Initial Capital Raise Course Description
Enrollment in this course is limited to JD/MBA candidates in their final year.
The JD/MBA capstone course is required for graduation for the JD/MBA joint-degree candidates. The course will be an experiential, hands-on model that tracks a company through several transactions: initial capital raise, exit/M&A, and restructuring. Through a series of two-day sessions (each with either a preparatory class before or a review class after) working with industry leaders, advisors, and/or faculty, students will run aspects of each simulated transaction (e.g., capital raise, exit, restructuring) including strategy development, transaction document drafting, client/Board advising, and negotiating during each two-day session.
Each of the three sessions (including the mandatory pre- or post-simulation classes) will provide 1.5 Law credits. A total of 3.0 credits (over the course of this final program year) is required to satisfy the program’s Capstone requirement. Accordingly, students are required to participate in two sessions, although students may (but are not required to) participate in all three (for a total of 4.5 Law credits). The Capstone course no longer satisfies the Law School’s Senior Writing Requirement, but will count toward the Law School experiential learning requirements.
Information for each of the three capstone sessions are noted below. Students intending to participate in only the two Spring sessions and not the Fall session need not register for the Capstone course for the Fall semester, but should advise Sarah Pierce and Claire Wallace of that intention when registering for Fall classes.
The prep meeting will be held on Wednesday, 10/23, in Silverman 280 from 6:30-9:30 pm.
