This full-year seminar is designed to provide an in-depth exploration of a topic relating to law innovation both through in-depth interactions in class and by acting as the staff for the Journal of Law and Innovation. During the fall semester, the class will convene as a typical seminar, with the readings focusing on the topic of that particular year’s symposium and will culminate in hosting the annual symposium. The fall semester grade will be based on class participation and presentations and a series of short papers. The work of the spring semester will consist of editing the symposium papers for publication and will be evaluated on a pass/fail basis.
The topic for this year’s seminar is Health Care’s Changing Industrial Structure.
Spring semester enrollment is limited to students who successfully participated in the writing competition held the previous spring or in unusual circumstances by permission of the instructor.

Courts and the Judicial System Learning outcomes: Demonstrate a core understanding of both substantive and procedural issues in the operation of our legal system; Perform legal analysis in the context of procedural issues and the judicial process; Communicate effectively on topics related to procedure and the judicial process; Demonstrate an understanding of how procedural issues and the judicial process affect all other area of our legal system.
Intellectual Property and Technology Law Learning outcomes: Demonstrate a core understanding of intellectual property law; Perform legal analysis in the context of intellectual property law; Communicate effectively on topics related to intellectual property; Demonstrate an understanding of the interconnection between technology and intellectual property, and how they affect other areas of law and society.
Health Law Learning outcomes: Demonstrate a core understanding of health law and policy; Perform legal analysis in the context of health law and policy; Communicate effectively on topics related to health law and policy; Demonstrate an understanding of the interconnection among health law and policy and issues of access to services, public and private financing of health industries, and the political and economic issues surrounding issues of health law and health services.
