This course, which is designed for non-law students, will examine the fundamentals of business law. After a brief examination of the overall legal framework in the United States, the course will focus on the core legal issues faced by any business, including but not limited to contracts, agency and employment, business organizations, government regulation and torts. At the course's conclusion, students should be in a position not only to recognize these legal issues but also be better able to evaluate any offered advice.
The course topics will be examined through textbook materials, cases, legal documents, and class discussion. This course will require active class participation. The textbook for the course is Kubasek, Browne, Herron, Dhooge, and Barkacs, Dynamic Business Law.
Business and Corporate Law Learning outcomes: Demonstrate a core understanding of business and corporate law; Perform legal analysis in the context of business and corporate law; Communicate effectively on topics related to business and corporate law; Demonstrate an understanding of the interconnection between the world of business and finance and that of business and corporate law, and how they affect other areas of law and society.
