Course Continuity
Students are encouraged to stay home if you are ill or experience flu-like symptoms. If you miss a class for any reason, it is still your responsibility to make up the work missed.

I offer the following to students who miss class due to illness:

- Class sessions are regularly recorded. I will make these recordings routinely available on the course site to everyone in the class.

- I will make PowerPoint slides or other class materials routinely available on the course site to everyone in the class.

General Business Law LAW528/Fall 2021 Professor Donyale Y. H. Reavis donyale@trustcalyx.com (305) 423-7138

Class meetings: Mondays 5:30 pm – 8:15 pm Office Hours: By appointment

Course Description: This course, which is designed for non-law students, will examine the fundamentals of business law-via asynchronistic content, lecture, and seminar format discussion. The course will focus on the core legal issues faced by any business, including contracts, employment law, business organizations and governance, and intellectual property. At the course’s conclusion, students should be in a position not only to recognize these legal issues but also better able to evaluate any offered advice.

Course Format and Requirements: Fully Remote Class Mix of Synchronous/Asynchronous Class Sessions: Class sessions will consist of a mix of asynchronous content, recorded lecturers and synchronous discussions with opportunities for Q&A. By Thursday of each week, I will post the class plan for the following week. Asynchronous recordings will appear in the “Panopto Recordings” tab on Canvas; synchronous sessions can be accessed by clicking on the “Student Zoom Course” link. The course topics will be examined through textbook materials, cases, handouts, legal documents, and small group class discussion. This seminar course will require active class participation. The textbook for the course is “Business Law” by West Academic Publishing (2017). Many of the cases will involve celebrity and athlete clients to the extent that they highlight the issues covered in any given week.

Grading: A final examination will comprise 50% of the grade, with the remaining 50% of the grade based on class participation. Schedule: See Assigned Readings Chart.

Asynchronous content: Additional handouts, PowerPoint presentations and asynchronous lectures are posted to Canvas on a weekly basis.
