This course, which is designed for non-law students, will examine the fundamentals of administrative law. Administrative agencies formulate rules and regulations that dramatically impact American life. Are these agencies a practical necessity in today’s complex world or are they an increasingly inappropriate delegation of decision-making? By the end of the term, you will have an opinion on this question -- an opinion that will be informed by a detailed examination of the purpose of administrative agencies, the ways in which these agencies are created and structured, the processes they follow when they act, and the political and judicial controls to which they are subjected.
Administrative and Regulatory Law Learning outcomes: Demonstrate a core understanding of administrative and regulatory law and the administrative process, including the role of statutory authorization and work of administrative agencies; Perform legal analysis in the context of administrative and regulatory law; Communicate effectively on topics related to administrative and regulatory law; Demonstrate an understanding of the role administrative and regulatory law play in our legal system and in society as a whole.
